Lower Silesia is a region of many faces. Amongst others its’ media face is a vibrant and life-loving one - just one reason why it is fast becoming a perfect choice for film makers worldwide.
All started in mid 50’s and since then over 500 feature films and countless other productions such as TV series and programs, short films, music videos, commercials were pre-produced, shot and post-produced in Lower Silesia and particularly in Wroclaw, in Wroclaw Film Studio. Amongst those productions are masterpieces of world cinema such as:
“Knife in the Water” by Roman Polanski
“The Noose” and “The Saragossa Manuscript” by Wojciech Jerzy Has
“Generation” and “Ashes and Diamonds” by Andrzej Wajda
“Karakter” by Mike van Diem.
Many other productions (i.e.: „The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Kaspian”, “Avalon”, “A Woman in Berlin”) were just shot in Lower Silesia.
There is an excellent film infrastructure and local professionals available to support foreign crews on any production stage. You can find around fascinating locations to shoot any type of film or video you’re up to. Industrial landscapes, ideal for modern dramas lie close to numerous castles, mountain views and natural wilderness, perfect for period stories. And there are also some places you’d find only few in the world which you can use for post-apocalyptic productions and war movies.
Mayan Films is a film production company that was created and is run by an enthusiastic team of creative film professionals, who are aware of constantly changing environment for producing and distributing films. 2006
“I Wanna Taste”
Electro-House Music Video produced for Pesho & Mr. Hide. Awarded in the ‘Ancension’ competition. Pesho is one of the most promising, young Polish club music producers, working with electro, deep, minimal and tribal house. Mr. Hide, vocalist, has been in club music for 5 years, working with house, drum and bass, chill-out, break beat and electro DJs. He has appeared on stage with many leading Polish and foreign DJs.
“Delivery Room”
TV programme pilot, produced for commercial TV station.
Two men are waiting for their children to be born in the delivery room. One of them is a well- mannered intellectual and the other is uneducated, unemployed and oblivious to social norms. What will the outcome be of two utterly different attitudes confronting each other in such a crucial moment?
Will this clash between two different worldviews and philosophies of life result in a greater understanding entrenching of outlooks?
“The Fantasy House”
A Mayan Productions feature film.
THE FANTASY HOUSE tells a story of Karina and Alan. Karina writes romance novels and Alan is a composer and both are lonely but also are not ready to take a risk to build a long-term relationship because of their isolation from the world. Alan had his fifteen minutes of fame five years ago, but since he and his partner broke up and he has not been able to compose a good piece of music. Karina writes about romantic love and soul mates that can make love all day but she herself has never experienced such a profound feeling. The fantasy house is one created by Karina’s and Alan’s imagination, a substitute for the real world. In that magical house they accept their needs and imperfections, allowing them to live their lives to the full in the outside world.
2007
“Reverse”
Short film about a very lonely woman. She spends most of her time trying to discover who she really is and what she really wants. However at one point she starts creating a perfect man by using magic. Eventually the man turns out to be an angel. This is a story of self-discovery on the sexual and personal level that happens to every woman once in her lifetime.
2008
“7 Minutes of Ur Life”
The relationship hasn't been good for a very long time between Katia and Mathew. None of them has said anything until one day Katia can't stand the silence between them any longer and decides to leave the
relationship but it's not easy to leave without saying anything.
“Short Guide About Autism”
The title speaks for itself.
“Mikolay”
Very personal short experimental movie about loss of unborn child.
2009
“9mm”
The story about two people living their lives, searching for the meaning of them. It appears the lonely searching doesn’t make very much sense if the only thing that can complete you is the other person. Are Katia and Mathew someone like this for each other? Will they take a risk to save themselves, even when it means terminating the lives they know and beginning unknown journey?
